Preparations
Rules

!

  • Go through the flow of the Assessment Center and read the info about each exercise

  • Check that every assessor understands the Global Competency Model

  • Together with the assessors think of the examples of situations (actions, phrases, etc) where you would be able to recognize the competences

  • Make sure that every assessor understands the scoring system of assessment

  • Print the Assessor and Applicant hand-outs

  • Come half-an-hour earlier for the de-briefing and to get ready

  • Be on time!

  • Act quietly and don't interrupt the candidates during the exercise given

  • Don't chat with other assessors - focus on behavior of people you evaluate

  • Take as many notes about the person and quotes as possible

  • Write down your general impression about the person

  • Each assessor evaluates 1-3 applicants at a time max

  • Each assessor is evaluating the same person throughout the whole Assessment Center

GET-TO-KNOW (option 1)

Faci prepares papers with the beginning of phrases. Candidates one by one standing in circle take the paper, tell his/her name and continue the phrase:

AIESEC is…

Today is a good day because…

In my free time I like to…

International experience is…

I’m here because…

Nobody knows but…

I have never ever…

Today I will for sure…

GET-TO-KNOW (option 2)

After self-presentation and flow explanation facis tell candidates to stand in one circle and they throw a marker – the person who catches the marker tells his/her name and the favorite drink or dish, film, book.

Then (after all people had the marker) facis ask them to stand in one line according to their month of birth (from January to December) in total silence! They have only 1 minute for it, they can use sings but they can’t say a word. Then they should tell one by one their date of birth so faci can check if it is all right.

Get-To-Know

In the end of get-to-know faci asks the group to form the line again according to their height and count from 1 to #, that they will be divided into groups of 5-6 people. And these are the groups they will be working in for the whole assessment.

 

Assign assessors to people that candidates will not notice. Ensure that every candidate is assigned to only 1 assessor and the name of candidate is clearly tracked. It’s recommended to take for assessment 1-3 candidates at the same time. 

You don’t have to evaluate candidates during G2K! But you can watch them just to get the general impression about them which can be of great use in the following exercises.

~25 minutes: 5 min developing, 5 min for each group to present

Divide candidates into 2 groups (by uniting several previous groups not to bother the Assessors)

Task is to develop the idea of social

responsible business in Africa. Social responsible

business is business which is based on some social issue

or social problem. This kind of business tries to solve this

problem and at the same time it should be profitable. But

the team has 100 euros only.

 

After 3 minutes Faci adds that the next task will be to

makepresentation for the company – Mars (Apple, Rovio, etc) and

make partnership with it. Also tell them that company will make

partnership only with one group.

Assessors announce whose business they buy. They can buy

only one or none .

 

KEEP in MIND

Mars wants to have social responsible brand. Strongly

worries about how their brand will be promoted. Can

support only with in-kind. Interested

only in children-projects.

Group Discussion

Social Product Development and Sales

They should discuss and

agree on a list from what would

impact more the humankind to what would have less impact. The group has to agree on a single list in maximum 7 minutes and the decision cannot be made by voting. The list they should rank by consensus is as follows:

20 minutes: 5 min explanation, 10 min for exercise, 5 min for presentation

Divide the candidates in groups from 5-7 people

After 7 minutes each group should

shortly present their results. And then Faci

asks for how many percent each person agrees with

the common team decision. You will hear 80%, 50%, etc.

The task was to come to 100% common decision in your team. Give them one minute more to complete the task.

Assessors notice how candidates work under pressure.

After that ask again for how many percent each person

agrees with the common team decision.

And tell that it’s very important to have own

opinion in each situation, but it’s much more

valuable when you can also find compromises

and come to common

Group Dynamics

15 minutes

Faci describes to the participants the following situation

Your team has got into

plane crash, but luckily you are all

alive and safely reached the desert island.

In the next 5 minutes you need to create

the rescue plan and distribute the roles and responsibilities in the team. You have 3 pieces to use for your rescue: plane wing, mobile phone without any connection options and your team. You are also able to use everything what is

around you on the island: ocean, fish,

fruits etc. Moreover you can use all

possible and imaginary functions

of those pieces. Try to be

as creative as possible.

In 5 minutes each team will present their rescue plan. Others can ask questions

Sum-up and Next Steps

Candidates and faci sit in one circle and faci asks candidates the following questions:

  1. Did you like the exercises? What was the brightest moment for you?

  2. Which exercise did you like the most and why?

  3. Did you like working in your team? What are your impressions about the team you worked in?

Next steps to tell about:

  1. Results of assessment will be communicated by this way and this time

  2. Those who passed the Assessment center have to… interview, allocation, LAS etc.

  3. Also add information about future events ( LAS, Y2B, ACCESS, etc )

  4. A good sense is to give contact of LC VP TM. Also you can take all the e-mails and form a facebook group with all the candidates to share the information and continue communication before AIESEC LAS.

In this part again assessors take time to finish their evaluation and write down general impression about each person.
