Membership Criteria, AIESEC in Finland

Introduction

For any organization, company, entity or group, the most important resources are the people in the entity. Machines can always be bought new, but people are quite irreplaceable and it’s important to make sure that the HR in any organization is the best as it can be. This is not different in AIESEC. For us to be a relevant organization, to achieve our goals and make impact, we need committed, enthusiastic people that will make our vision closer to reality. These “people” we call our members and having the best possible members is the necessity for us to be the organization we desire to be.

What kind of members do we want then?

Naturally we want members that are aligned with our vision, our activities, but members that are also willing to work and are committed to the goals and actions we want to achieve. Having members that believe what we do is completely different from having members that believe what we do AND are willing to work for it. To create the right culture in the organization, it’s important that we are able to select the right people* and that we encourage these people to work. Still it’s also important that we set the right expectations for them, expectations towards working in AIESEC. These “expectations” are called the membership criteria.

Membership criteria

In it’s simplicity is something that determines what kind of members we want and what we expect from them, in order for us to achieve what we are here to do. Having the right* members will increase our results (exchanges), make us more efficient, make our programme experiences better and also it will brand us better and make us more relevant externally.

* Right members = members that are committed to the organizational values, vision and goals and are ready to act upon it.

So, let’s take a look at what can we do to make membership criteria a reality;

What is the Purpose of membership criteria?

Like mentioned in the introduction, the membership criteria are here to set the right expectations for our current and future members. It describes the minimum level of performance and requirement that is expected from every member of AIESEC in Finland. This will ensure that we have a standard in the organization and every member of the organization is expected to adhere to the terms of the criteria.

Who does membership criteria applies to?

Every person taking any Team member (TMP) or Team leader programmes (TLP).
